Psychologist Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, the Psychologist will know or be able to do the following as a result of having taken this course...

-Identify six widely used structured assessment instruments.
-Explain Alcohol Dependence/Alcoholism as defined by the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders".
-Describe how a community can develop a plan for research-based prevention.
-Explain a first step to getting better from alcohol problems.
-Identify legal/ethical issues in three areas that alcohol & drug therapists providing rehabilitation need to be aware of.
-Describe what term Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) uses to examine features of families based on common groupings, influencing the process of therapy.
-Discuss four barriers to effective collaboration when using the traditional referral system from substance abuse treatment programs to outside agencies.
-List four high-risk behaviors/activities that cause 25%-50% of children aged 10-17 in the US to be at risk for curtailed educational, emotional, economic, and social opportunities.
-Explain circumstances that should prompt a diagnostic referral related to substance abuse.
-Identify two consequences of an adult who abuses substances and lives alone or with a partner.
-Describe one of the characteristics of those particularly liable to use drugs as compared with nonusing adolescents in the same schools.

 The instructional level of this course is introductory, intermediate, or advanced depending on the learners clinical area of expertise.
