"Reaction Analysis"

Client answers the following questions to better understand their maladaptive schemas:

  1. Ask yourself if there was your reaction beneficial to facilitate your meeting your goal of for example, maintaining your job.  Did the resulting interaction work out well, or did your thoughts, intense feelings, or reactions leave you feeling upset?
  2. Each schema has unique triggers, so the situation that sets you off is another clue to which schema might be involved.  What was your trigger? 
  3. Each schema has its own distinctive emotional flavor. You can identify whatever schema may be at play by identifying your visceral reactions.  What were your feelings?
  4. What did you do?

Client evaluates emotions that are at the core of a specific feeling.  These feelings include:

  1. Anger

  3. fear
  4. regret
  5. frustration
  6. disappointment

  4. Recall a time when you felt excluded in some way.
