Course Learning Objectives/Outcomes

By the end of the course, the Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist will be able to:
-Explain six parenting experiences regarding children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
-Discuss six communication-based interventions for nonverbal children with autism.
-Explain five techniques regarding imitative responses in young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
-Discuss a school-based integrative approach for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
-Explain three behavior interventions for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
-Discuss two forms of family involvement with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
-Explain what behaviors are common in nonverbal children with autism who demonstrate difficulty with ACC systems. 
-Explain in what socialization approach are peers utilized to role play sharing, helping, giving affection and praise for preschool children with autism. 
-Explain what is the rationale behind using social story interventions. 
-Explain what is the goal of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) interventions.
